Pupper Down Under!

Sev accepted the position in Brissy in mid-November. 6 months, 5 vet appointments, 4 blood tests, a second microchip, 30 days of quarantine, 8,000 miles, 3 plane trips, thousands of dollars and countless worries later Vaquita arrived to our new home down under!

Moving Quita to Brissy was by far the most stressful part of the move. Just ask Sev! Australia, Japan, and England are considered the 3 most difficult places to bring a dog in the world. The first thing she did after 10 minutes of hugging and kissing me was roll around in the grass like she hadn't seen grass in a month. Oh wait, she hadn't...

Quita has gained about 4 kilos - 10 pounds! - between the time I moved to Brissy and now. Needless to say, she is on a diet which is going exceedingly well. She apparently doesn't like her diet food and isn't eating at all! She'll lose this weight in no time!

We had decided to keep Quita in her crate in the car just like we did in the states, but that went out the window the minute I saw her! I couldn't force myself to put her back in her crate and I didn't want her to leave my side!

Sev wasn't able to be here for our reunion since he was travelling for work, so we had a self portrait photo shoot in the car to get a good shot to send him!

This is the only time in her life that I've allowed Quita to lick my face uncontrollably and even I enjoyed it!

She was super furry and smelly from not being brushed or bathed for 3 months, but I didn't care!

We had a busy evening - after all, Quita needed a makeover after 3 months of neglect! The first thing we did upon arriving home was go for a walk, then I brushed her, then she got a bath, then I brushed her again.

As usual, she got a rawhide treat after her bath.

The stress of travel, her makeover, and the first exercise in 3 months must have tired her out - Quita put herself to bed around 9pm that night.

The next morning, we woke up and the first thing Quita did was roll around in the sun on the patio! It makes me so happy to see my pupper at home again!

You may remember from a previous post that we made a pupper patch for Quita to use as a potty since we don't have a yard on our patio. I can proudly report that she required no training and is using the pupper patch 100% of the time!

She even mowed it this morning, like I was hoping she would do! We've been wondering how to mow it when the time comes and I keep hoping - pupper likes to eat grass and she is a little cow after all....

She loves to look at the birds and river from her pupper patch!

When we went by the dog park on our morning walk, it was empty - Quita isn't always friendly when meeting new dogs - so she got to run around off leash for a bit.

And we enjoyed the river view!
