Sev is one of those few Americans with a February birthday who is lucky enough to experience a summertime birthday in his life! We had a few friends over to celebrate.
As Aussies like to do, they shared their culture with us by gifting him with this outfit. Men actually wear these shorts, called ruggers (short for rugby), in Australia frequently. You can see our neighbor Sam gawking in the background. I imagine this is the point at which she decided to decline our invitation.
After presents, we went to the pool during which time Jess and Dane battled over who could tell the dirtiest joke. I think Dane won.
Everyone else was left to eat chips and fruit and enjoy the show! I learned that Aussies hide in the shade while at the pool.
Because Sev, Charles (a Fijian) and I were the only ones to jump in. You can see Sev was in rare form enjoying his new apparel and my floatie.
After several rounds of drinks at the pool Jess turned into a towel snapping monster back at our apartment.
And she injured Sev's manhood in one ill fated snap. What a birthday present!
I think Alea noticed that I wasn't safe to be near the bbq by this time and she took over cooking duties. She did a great job, though!
We had burgers and lamb chops, and introduced our friends to the concept of putting pickles on a burger!
Sev asked for an ice cream cake, and in Australia they are made out of 3 layers of ice cream - no cake! It was a hot day so we had to eat it fast before it melted.
Quita had a reunion with Todd, who dog sat for us once while we were away. She loves him!
She always takes the opportunity to misbehave at our parties!
And I'm left as the only one enforcing the rules most times! Can you believe this man used to think dogs shouldn't be let inside the house?!
We went out on the town after our barbecue and Todd took us to a place where one of his friends was DJing.
Sev's coworker Paul came over right as we were heading out and joined us.
Then we met up with the girls who were out for a hen's night (Aussie for bachelorette party).
By midnight we had been partying for about 12 hours and were ready for bed! The wet spot on my dress is from the ice that Jess put down my dress and I left it there because it felt good in the summer heat!
After we took this picture, we got McDonald's (my first McDonald's burger ever) and then went straight home!
